I sometimes have an earthquake in my head when I try to sleep.
Anything I say about the Japanese would be an understatement; the sorrow we all have for them and their beautiful country and culture.
The recent earthquake in New Zealand was not even The Big One we have been anticipating; it was relatively small in size and unrelated to the Alpine Fault, which is the spine of our country, and so ominously loaded.
Natural disasters seem to have abounded recently. Either the media is just getting better at reporting all the horrors that normally go on and cultivating fear, or the universe is actually turning against us. Anyway, the general consensus seems to be that the world is fucked. Besides, it is nearly March 20th, and it is also nearly 2012
[two popular current doomsday predictions]
Historically, it's only(?) the minority phenomenon known as Western Civilization that expects safety and longevity, gravely complaining to the universe when it does not comply. Spiritually, we invent gods whose responsibility it is to keep us safe. But just because they 'can' does not meant they 'should', by definition. Even if they are invented.
Do give my love to Christchurch and Japan.
Sincerely,

One day they invented a god to keep them safe but he escaped and showed them a higher existence, one with danger and pain and beauty, the last of which had never before been seen because it can only exist in the presence of danger/pain/evil....

This is from one of my favourite albums by Deliriou5?; in fact it was the first album i ever bought. I was about 12.
The album also includes song titles: Shaken Up, Did You Feel The Mountains Tremble, and You Split The Earth.
It is a lovely song.
